A message from the developer
Hi, and thank you for considering my software.
I would like to encourage you to read the documentation published on this website. I want you to be confident in your purchase — and I believe that means being open with you about how this software came to exist, how it was built, and how I arrived at its price.
This project has been many years in the making — its roots go back to before Covid. What started as a personal need to share family photos and videos privately has grown into two connected products: Family Media Manager (FMM), a self-hosted web platform, and FamilyVault, a local face-recognition photo archive tool.
I want to be fully transparent: the code for this software was written with the assistance of Claude.ai, an AI coding tool by Anthropic. I am not a professional software developer — I am a retired engineer and a grandfather. Using AI assistance allowed me to build something I could not have produced alone in a reasonable timeframe. However, every decision, every idea, every problem solved, and every hour spent testing and refining this software has been mine. The commitment has been enormous.
The core idea — private, family-controlled photo and video sharing — was always going to be free. In a world of increasing concerns around child safety, data privacy, and the practices of social media platforms, I wanted to offer families something genuinely different: software that keeps your memories on your own server, under your control, with no advertising, no data harvesting, and no subscription fees.
The current price of £14.99 for FamilyVault is, in my honest view, a promotional price while both products continue to be improved. I have asked myself many times — often on a sleepless night — what I would pay for software like this. My genuine answer is somewhere between £40 and £80 as a one-off, lifetime payment with no subscription. At £14.99, I consider it a genuine bargain and a thank-you to early adopters who support the project at this stage.
Please do take the time to read the full documentation on this page. It will give you a much clearer picture of what FMM and FamilyVault are, what they can do, and where they are heading.
Thank you for your time, and I hope you enjoy your new software.
Sincerely, Bob George

"I wanted to share videos with my grandkids. But nowhere felt private enough. So I built something instead."
FamilyVault was built by a retired engineer and grandfather who wanted a way to find and share family memories — without handing them over to big tech. Every photo stays on your computer. Nothing goes to the cloud. No algorithms. No data mining. Just your family, your memories, your way.
